So You’ve Built a Website… Now You Must Market It
Building a website is only the first step to developing a personal or business presence online. Once developed, you must market your website so that people can find it. There are three popular ways of doing this.
Search engine optimization (SEO) refers to building your website so that it tops out in certain metrics which search engines look on favorably. Or, as someone has referred to it, search engine optimization is about making your website popular with search engines. There are many articles and books written that will instruct you on exactly what you need to do in order to make your website popular with search engines.
Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of paid advertisement, putting your website at the top of search engine results that tickle your keywords. Search engine marketing is very valuable because it guarantees that your website is at the top of millions of listings, increasing your visibility greatly.
With search engine marketing, you pay to put your website at the top of the search results, but with search engine optimization, you merely organize your website so that it comes in near the top of the non-paid search results.
google adwords is another form of paid marketing. Unlike search engine marketing, however, Google adwords appear in places other than in search engine results. Every website that has Google adwords advertising (and there are a lot), is a potential billboard for your website.
