What to do when you can’t find a will

My mother was a pack rat she kept everything you name it: newspapers, magazines, old mail and thousands of expired coupons. She lived in Chicago with her 3 cats. When she died after a terrible battle with cancer. I was named as the executor of her estate. The painful thing is that she told me that I was the executor but we couldn’t find the will in all the trash she kept.  I called a Chicago probate attorney who knew how to handle the situation. The attorney tracked down the attorney who wrote the will and luckily he had the original.
