Using a specific type of research format depends entirely on your teacher and your subject.  There are certain types of research paper formats that are suitable for a certain kind of topic.  Like for political science and history, a Turabian Paper Format is the most suitable format to use. Of course, your teacher still has a say on the type of format you should use.
