When pursuing an internship, family commitments can hinder you

We would all like to have a life outside of work — but the simple reality is that those pursuing an internship are expected to make a great commitment to their future career development. If you are a person with a family — a spouse, kids, or elderly parents who require care and attention — many companies will feel that your family responsibilities and commitments will always be a greater priority than your work. As an intern, pre-existing family commitments can actually hurt you — so if you are thinking about becoming an intern, try to hold off on making that a major priority in your life.
