There are four main formats for private plates. Ageless was the traditional type comprising number then letters or vice-versa. Then came suffix whereby you have three letters then 1 to 3 numbers then another letter. Prefix is next with one letter, 1 to 3 number then threes letters and finally newstyle which is two letter, two numbers then three letters. Ageless is best for short registrations such as S1 and newstyle is best for spelling long names. Perhaps the best ones are the ones which just work perfectly such as CYB 1L or S1 NGH, these command the best prices.
