Motorbikes thwart specs cameras.
Specs cameras used for avergae speed detection have a flaw (as do Truvelo cameras). They work by photographing the front number plate of the vehicles at the beginning of the roadworks and then again at the end and compute the average speed over the distance between, however motorcycles often have no front number plate or if they do it is mounted on the front mudguard so is at 90 degrees to the camera and therefore not visible. Giving that bike riders do tend to speed more than car drivers it is surprising the police have not requested a change in legislation to cover this.
